Adam Brody and Kristen Bell have given the people what they wanted: a good old-fashioned romantic comedy with a really good kiss.
The new Netflix series Nobody wants this shot to the top of the streaming charts after its release on September 26, and everyone is talking about one scene in particular. The show, inspired by the life of creator Erin Foster, is about an agnostic podcast host from Los Angeles (Bell) who falls in love with a handsome, unconventional rabbi (Brody). The actors spoke to Yahoo Entertainment about their off-the-charts chemistry and the pressure of pulling off such a satisfying on-screen kiss.
“I think we were both a little surprised to read [the] script where we had to kiss, where it said it was going to be the 'biggest kiss in the world,'” Bell admitted. She and Brody have worked together before (French fries, Shout 4, house of lies) and say that their friendship helped their chemistry, rather than making those scenes “weird” as some might think.
“I wouldn't say it was weird,” Bell told Yahoo about kissing her friend.
“I wouldn't say it was strange either,” Brody agreed.
“It was probably a comfort because… we had worked together before as love interests. We have enough friends in common and we know each other's spouses,” Bell explained, referring to herself and Brody's partners, Dax Shepard and Leighton Meester. “There's… a level of comfort, right? Because I can say anything to Adam. I know he can tell me something. There's no strange energy between us.”
“Plus, after doing the first one or doing it a few times, you're in the zone,” Brody concluded. “We didn't do sex scenes; that's another matter.”
It didn't take long for the kiss to dominate every corner of the Internet. “Kristen Bell and Adam Brody's new romantic comedy has one of the best kissing scenes I've ever seen” read a headline.
Foster was inspired by the characters of Matt Damon and Minnie Driver in Goodwill Hunt when writing about the biggest kiss in the world. (Nobody wants this is loosely based on her conversion to Judaism by her husband Simon Tikhman.)
“When you go on your first date and you're eating hamburgers and fries and you've got food on your face, and you're like, 'Let's have the first kiss. Let's do it now and get it out of the way.'” “I found it to be a very different type of first kiss, and it was still very romantic but conversational, realistic, fun and flirty,” Foster told Entertainment Weekly. “I really wanted to create a moment that gave you those kinds of anticipated, exciting feelings.” .
Judging by social media, mission accomplished, since X seems delighted with the kiss.
This kiss scene between Noah and Joanne was crazy. I'll be thinking about it for years. Adam Brody, the fictional Green Flag character, is the kind of global healing women around the world have been waiting for. #NobodyWantsThispic.twitter.com/g67soNbURv

I can finally say NO ONE WANTS THIS is perfect. A romantic comedy that is actually romance AND comedy. Adam Brody leveled up to a hot spot that I didn't think was possible. A first kiss scene that left me DIZZY!!!!

Apparently, the kiss lived up to their expectations in real life too. Bell he told TVLine It's the best on-screen kiss I've ever had.
