There are still a couple of months to go before the holiday season completely takes over the world, but when it does, we can be sure that a lot of people will be re-watching their favorite movies by watching some of the best Christmas movies. These include modern classics, True loveThe film tells numerous beautiful and heartbreaking stories, but one that seems to get more attention each year is the controversial love triangle between the characters played by Andrew Lincoln, Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Eijofor.
Lincoln plays a man in love with his best friend's new wife. It's not a situation any of us would like to be in, but over the years, many have suggested that even letting the woman of your dreams know your feelings is a terrible thing, and Eijofor agrees. He recently told Comicbook.com who has even told his co-star to his face that his character is a terrible best friend. He said:
One of the most famous True love In this scene, Mark (Andrew Lincoln) silently confesses his love to Juliet (Kiera Knightley) via cards, while Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) nonchalantly believes she is enjoying a door-to-door caroling performance. It is intended to be seen as a cathartic moment for Lincoln's character; now that he has unburdened his soul, he can move on with his life. But as Ejiofor points out, the film never addresses the aftermath, which surely would have been significant had the husband/best friend ever found out what happened.
As True love It's become a regular holiday tradition, and it seems like more and more people are getting used to this way of thinking. Even director Richard Curtis has said that while he didn't see the problematic nature of the scene at first, he has since come to understand what's wrong with it and why people take issue with it. Even Andrew Lincoln has said that he was afraid of looking like a “creepy stalker” while filming the movie.
To be fair, the “stalker” thing isn't even the only bad part of the relationship. Keira Knightley was only 18 when she made the movie, which makes her an adult, and Lincoln is more than a decade older than her. Knightley is closer in age to the children who co-star in the film.
All this being said, True love It's great because it tells so many different stories about the different ways that love can manifest itself, and unrequited love is certainly one of the ways that that happens.
