Dermot Mulroney I had an “incredibly warm” welcome from Chicago Fire cast, but the same cannot be said for his character, Chief Dom Pascal.
“It starts off pretty strong. I don’t think I’m there to be anybody’s best friend,” Mulroney, 60, told The Associated Press exclusively. We weekly from Pascal's entrance to Firehouse 51 during the season 13 premiere, which airs Wednesday, Sept. 25. “He's going to set up the way he thinks things should happen.”
Us It was previously confirmed that Mulroney was chosen as the new chief after Eamonn Walker announced in May that he will no longer be a series regular beginning with Season 13. (During the Season 12 finale that month, Walker's Chief Wallace Boden won the deputy commissioner race, meaning he will no longer work at Firehouse 51.)
Pascal (Mulroney) will have some very big shoes to fill as the new leader, as the actor said. Us It won't be easy to do so.
“He's an extremely moral guy… He was tested a couple of times at the beginning of the season,” Mulroney explained, noting that Pascal, who is from Miami, will impose some “new rules at the firehouse” that don't sit well with everyone.
He joked: “He’s not there to get along with everyone. On the contrary, he’s a firefighter who works on the ground.”
Mulroney revealed that Pascal “walks right into” every fire when he first joins the Windy City team “without hesitation.” That shows that “he is just as responsible for putting out a fire as anyone else who comes into the firehouse,” he added.
Hanako Greensmithwho plays the paramedic in charge Violet Mikami, told the cast exclusively Us Earlier this month, she said that Pascal “comes in a bit of a firecracker.” She called the new character “a bit of an anomaly” and “a bit of a mystery.”
Miranda Rae Maywho plays Lieutenant Stella Kidd, agreed that Pascal is “a difficult character to read and he's also very confident in his path forward.” She exclusively told Us that the new leader “comes in and does what he wants,” but the rest of the crew feels “a certain pride” in how they have always worked together.
Mulroney said Greensmith's description of “firecracker” is very accurate, teasing that season 13 is “really physical” and leans “toward action” more than he expected. “Things are bigger, louder and [there’s] bigger explosions,” he shared.
The actor revealed that “every week is a surprise,” insisting that Pascal is a “really cool character” who “will face his own moral dilemmas” as the season progresses.
“He's really a person who stands up for people, for his own crew, for his family,” Mulroney said. Usnoting that this is what he “might have in common” with Boden. However, his “attitude towards the patient is a little different,” he joked.
In the end, Mulroney couldn't have asked for a better start to filming. Chicago Fire“It was exciting to meet this cast. They really put me to work at full speed to get me on board,” he enthused. “It was amazing.”
Season 13 of Chicago Fire premieres Wednesday, September 25 at 9 pm ET.
