The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi Engemann Not exactly a craving for more fruity pebble drama.
“There was a little bit of tension between me and my husband once he came out,” Demi, 30, revealed exclusively on We weeklyThe new cover story for 's. “Now it says, 'Is anybody saying anything?' It's become this fun, funny thing that we're having fun with.”
In Season 1 of Hulu's hit reality show, cast member Whitney Leavitt He pranked Demi by gifting her a box full of fruit stones. Viewers later learned that Demi and her husband, Bret Engemannhad a naughty experience with cereal that wasn't meant to be shared on television.
“We'll keep it a mystery,” Demi said. Us Asked how breakfast spiced up their relationship, she said: “If people start to understand it little by little, then maybe we will talk about it.”
For now, Demi is still trying to come to terms with how the off-camera conversation turned into one of the most scandalous storylines of the season.
“I didn’t expect it to get as crazy as it did,” she said. “I thought it would be a small thing that a few people would pick up on. It’s like every story post I’m tagged in. It’s weird. It’s hilarious. We’re just keeping the mystery alive. It’s been fun.”
If anything, Demi was hoping viewers would open up about her 16-year age gap with her husband, and so they did. Together since spring 2020, the couple initially faced questions from critics long before joining reality TV.
Once The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives When it was released, Demi was undeterred by the naysayers.
“The further we go down the road of being together and seeing his true intentions and how he treats me and how patient and loving and kind he is, the more I realize that it all depends on how you are in your relationship,” she said. “If you are treated fairly and respectfully and you are happy, it doesn’t matter what other people think.”
Demi added that it is “satire” to see false rumors that she met her husband when she was 9 years old.
“We didn’t officially meet until I was 20,” she said. “So it was a small detail that probably made all the difference to people who think we’re really crazy and weird.”
If season two does come to fruition, Demi admitted she'll be a little more careful about what she shares about her relationship.
It's not that the MomTok member is unhappy with her marriage, but she believes that it's not always a matter of kissing and telling.
“What’s going through my head is that I want to tell everyone. I want to share everything,” she said. “Sometimes you don’t know you’re crossing boundaries until you cross them. That was a boundary that was definitely crossed and I feel bad about it. But we’ve talked about it since. He was like, ‘I know you’re excited and that’s nice, but let’s keep that stuff between us.’”
