The Carters spent their first days as husband and wife at the naval base in Norfolk, Virginia, where Jimmy was away most of the week on assignments and Rosalynn enjoyed a crash course in housekeeping.
Your first child, son John William “Jack” CarterHe was born on July 3, 1947, so the couple celebrated their first anniversary in the hospital as a family of three. The following year, Jimmy was selected for submarine school in New London, Connecticut, and finally had a regular schedule so he could be home every night with his wife and son.
They welcomed their son. James Earl “Chip” Carter III in April 12, 1950, while living in Hawaii. He then went to San Diego, California, and then back to New London, where his son DonnelJeffrey “Jeff” Carter he was born on August 18, 1952, and they later moved to Schenectady, New York, so Jimmy could study nuclear energy at Union College.
Rosalynn has said she planned to be a Navy wife, move from city to city and see the world with her husband. Which he finally did, but not in the way he would have ever imagined.
