Thronefall, a minimalist strategy game about building and then defending your own little kingdom, is leaving Steam Early Access next month.
Additionally, Thronefall developer GrizzlyGames has announced that a Switch version is also coming in October.
In a press release detailing today’s announcement, GrizzlyGames said that Thronefall has already sold just under 1 million copies since its early access launch on Steam last August, and has another 65,000 wishlists on Valve’s platform.
When Thronefall leaves Early Access, it will include three more levels, bringing the full campaign to 10 levels. There will also be more “perks, enemies, and weapons,” the developer said. There have also been other quality-of-life improvements to the game, such as “being able to see information about upcoming waves in the pause menu.”
Thronefall will be deprecated on Steam on October 11. The Switch version will also be available on the same day.
“We're incredibly grateful for the attention Thronefall has received since we launched on Steam Access. The reception has far exceeded anything we could have imagined,” said Jonas Tyroller of Thronefall.
“With the newer editions and the launch of the Nintendo Switch, we hope there's something for everyone to enjoy and that the game reaches more people – from the kid playing their first strategy game to the veteran who just doesn't have the time to invest hundreds of hours learning how to play something new.”
Christian Donlan was pretty impressed with Thronefall when he decided to try it out for himself.
“Thronefall has that classic strategy/tactical game idea where the player never has enough resources to do everything. But it also varies the texture of what they don't have enough resources to do constantly. Slow, then fast. Weak and numerous, then strong but sparse. Everything in between,” he wrote in Eurogamer's Thronefall preview last year, calling it “pretty special”.
