After almost two decades stuck in development hell, the Masters of the Universe The reboot is finally making significant progress. Along with Nicholas Galitzine being cast as Prince Adam/He-Man, it was announced back in August that Camila Mendes will be playing the badass Teela in the highly-anticipated project. Now that we're approaching September, the actress who will be playing Evil-Lyn has also been revealed, and this casting update makes me even more eager to find out who will be playing her boss, Skeletor, aka He-Man's arch-nemesis.
Community, GLOW and Promising young woman Actress Alison Brie has been cast to play Evil-Lyn in Masters of the Universeas shared The thrShe will be the second person to play the role in live action, after Meg Foster in 1987. Masters of the Universe Movie. Much more recently, game of Thrones' Lena Headley lent her voice to the character in Masters of the Universe: Revelationand the follow-up Revolutionand Grey Griffin lent his voice to him He-Man and the Masters of the UniverseThese shows can be streamed with a Netflix subscription.
Alison Brie's casting as Evil-Lyn comes as the actress stars in Peacock's subscription-exclusive limited thriller series Apples never fallFor those unfamiliar with Evil-Lyn, she is a witch who serves as Skeletor's second-in-command and is far more intelligent than the skeleton-faced antagonist's usual minions. As such, she has not only frequently hatched her own sinister plans, but has freely admitted that she one day hopes to take Skeletor's power for herself and rule Eternia with an iron fist. However, Revelation and Revolution It delivered a more sympathetic portrayal of Evil-Lyn, so I'll be curious to see if the Masters of the Universe The reboot will follow the same example or just show her as a simple villain.
Either way, it's nice to see that Alison Brie has finally landed a role in a live-action film, with Amazon MGM Studios partnering with Mattel Films to Masters of the Universe following the project that was previously housed on Netflix. While I'm certainly intrigued to see how Brie fares in Evil-Lyn, as mentioned above, this also makes me more curious as to who will be cast to play Skeletor in this new version. Community Fan, I'm oddly interested in the possibility of co-star Joel McHale taking over that role before they reunite for Peacock's Community movie, though I doubt that will happen. Whoever it is, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he and Brie have the right chemistry to make this villainous pairing stand out on the big screen.
Directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Masters of the Universe The film is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2026. With the casting news that has come in over the past few weeks, it's very likely that production will begin soon.
