The retired gymnast, who has long stressed the importance of mental health, has found that limiting her screen time has made a big difference in her ability to relax.

“I'm trying to be more present when I'm with people,” Aly told E! News exclusively. Francesca Amiker“And not being on my phone as much, which has helped my mental health a lot. Because I think when I'm present, I feel more relaxed and calmer.”

And while the 30-year-old feels anxious about not being able to keep up with all of her unread messages, she noted that there is “a very difficult balance” between responding to friends and family virtually, but still being present in the moment.

Still, Aly loves having the ability to unplug, especially because she feels it gives her “permission to just relax” and “unplug from everything.”
