Before its world premiere tomorrow at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, a new Queer A photo has been revealed for Luca Guadagnino's new romantic drama. It marks Guadagnino's first gay period drama in a long time, almost a decade after he scored critical success with 2017's Call Me by Your Name.
“The plot takes place in 1940s Mexico City and follows Lee, who has fled a drug bust in New Orleans. In Mexico City, Lee wanders the city’s clubs and falls in love with Allerton, a drug addict retired from the U.S. Navy,” the synopsis reads.
Who's in the new Queer photo?
The new documentary also gives audiences a closer look at protagonists Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, whose characters can be seen talking to each other in a bar. The film does not yet have a theatrical release date, but A24 is expected to handle North American distribution.
Queer is directed and produced by Guadagnino from a screenplay written by Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel of the same name. Joining Craig and Starkey are Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Drew Droege, Ariel Schulman, Colin Bates, Omar Apollo, Ronia Ava and more.
In addition to Queer, Guadagnino is also currently working on another star-studded project, a thriller titled After the Hunt. It will be directed by Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garlfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloe Sevigny. Meanwhile, Craig will also appear in Netflix's Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, where he will reprise his role as Detective Benoit Blanc.
