Fans aren't the only ones left in the dark about… Ryan MurphyThe new horror series of Grotesque —The cast also has no idea what's going on on the show.
During an exclusive interview with We weekly, Courtney B. Vance and Raven Goodwin and Nicolas Chavez They admitted that they didn't know much about Grotesque despite being on the show themselves.
“I don’t know anything. I’m really excited to find out what’s going on,” Vance, 64, who plays Marshall, joked about the upcoming FX series. “It’s a very unique place. They’re literally creating it as they go.”
Vance recalled that he received “three or four” scripts before they “stopped” coming in. Goodwin, 32, for her part, has enjoyed not receiving all the responses.
“Now I feel like I need to watch it, which I love,” shared the actress who plays Merritt. “I love it. I want to watch and be a fan of a show that I’m on.”
Grotesquewhich premieres on Wednesday, September 25, follows detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) while working with a local nun named Sister Megan (Micaela Diamante) to discover who is behind a series of heinous crimes in their community. Vance and Goodwin play Lois' family, who are dealing with their own problems when the show begins.
“We are the scene of the murder in a real sense because my [onscreen] My wife is dealing with all that there. You would think that when she came home, [it would be to peace]“It’s horrible here,” Vance said. “She doesn’t get any rest.”
In fact, viewers can expect things to “get worse” before they get better for Lois.
“It doesn’t get better, it doesn’t progress. They struggle and they spend the whole season trying to find themselves and each other,” Goodwin revealed. “Maybe in season two we can do better.”
She continued: “The process of coming on board a Ryan Murphy project, from getting the details of the character to meeting her on set and bringing her vision to life, is rewarding. It’s fun and interesting. They left it all up to my interpretation and were open to how I saw it, which I loved. It was a good collaboration and a beautiful thing.”
At the center of the season is a killer who seems to be taunting Lois. The plot may intersect with Goodwin and Vance's characters, but that doesn't mean they know who's behind the fictional murders, even after filming the series.
“We didn’t see them. We don’t know who the killer is,” Vance admitted, while Goodwin added: “We don’t know who he or she is.”
Chavez, 25, experienced the same kind of mystery surrounding… Grotesque.
“Ryan Murphy’s world is shrouded in secrecy, even from us,” the actor said. Us“It’s a really fun world to be a part of because we’re constantly surprised, just like the audience.”
Grotesque It premieres on FX on Wednesday, September 25 at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes stream on Hulu the following day.
