Tony Hawk has revealed that he's “been talking to Activision again” about the Pro Skater series ahead of its 25th anniversary in September.
The original Tony Hawk Pro Skater debuted on September 29, 1999, and would go on to receive four more numbered entries, along with dozens of spin-offs, culminating in the critically acclaimed (and record-breaking) remakes of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 in 2020.
Sadly, plans to give Pro Skater 3 and 4 a similar remake treatment were scrapped after Activision made the decision to merge developer Vicarious Visions with Blizzard, so that it could serve as a support studio for the Diablo franchise and other titles.
But now, it seems that “something” related to Pro Skater is on the horizon. Speaking on YouTube channel Mythic cuisine (thank you VGC), Hawks recently revealed: “I've been talking to Activision again, which is incredibly exciting, we're working on something.”
Hawk didn't elaborate on the “something” planned for the series' 25th anniversary, but added, “I wish I could tell you more.” He did tease, however, that whatever it is, “it's going to be something that fans will really appreciate.” Beyond that, all we know is that Activision recently updated its Tony Hawk social media pages ahead of the series' birthday celebration.
When Hawk previously discussed the cancelled Pro Skater 3 and 4 remakes, he admitted, “I wish there was some way to bring it back,” adding, “When everything calms down, maybe we’ll figure it out.” Is it possible that the project has since been quietly revived for the series’ 25th anniversary? Perhaps, as much as that’s just wishful thinking, or perhaps it’s just been turned into an NFT. Either way, with September 29th approaching, it shouldn’t be too long before we find out more.
