Scott Peterson talks about his romance with Amber Frey
Even detectives who had no affection for Scott to begin with admitted on the Peacock series that they were stunned when they discovered Laci's husband was having an affair.
“That really surprised me,” the former Modesto police detective said. Jon Buehlerwho worked on the case with Brocchini, said on the show. He recalled thinking: “Now things are starting to take shape.”
Scott doesn't have a grand explanation for why he cheated on his pregnant wife (“Childish, lacking self-esteem, selfish,” he said in suggesting some reasons that drove his decision), but he said he “certainly” regretted it.
He called the accusation that he killed Laci because he simply did not want to be a husband or father “so offensive and so disgusting.”
When asked why he kept talking to Amber in a way that seemed romantic after Laci disappeared, Scott said on the series that he was trying to keep police focused on finding his wife.
“I thought I should keep in touch with Amber,” he told Shareen, “and she wouldn't come into the picture, complicate things, or ruin the search.”
She described the prospect of police discovering their affair as “a ticking time bomb.”
And when the world found out, Scott said, he became “a complete asshole for having sex outside of our marriage.”
